IOM Sierra Leone Diaspora Agribusiness Conference Day 1 Opening Statement

IOM Sierra Leone launched Diaspora Agribusiness, to utilize SL Diaspora for country development through investment.  Sierra Leone is the time of development phase, but almost all of business sectors faces funding resources. IOM try to utilize Diaspora for encouraging remittance/ investment to home country.

Mr.Savage began by thanking the GoSL for prioritizing trade and investment in its new direction. He extended his gratitude to MDAs and other sector agencies for partnering with IOM on  this forum. Then,  Amb. Yumkella, Minister of  Political and Public Affairs welcomed all participants on behalf of the President of Sierra Leone and confirmed that his ministry, MPPA, provides oversight functions to Office of Diaspora Affairs (ODA) which, in partnership with IOM, organized this forum.

Mr.Konteh, Minister of  Trade and Industry explained his ministry’s commitment to stimulate trade and investment in Sierra Leone, through developing and reviewing policies geared towards achieving the country’s sustainable economic growth and in line with the government’s New Direction.  After that, In expressing gratitude to the GoSL for hosting the Japanese delegates, Japanese Ambassador. Himeno thanked the GoSL for the focus on building a good relationship between the people of Sierra Leone and the people of Japan.  Minister of Planning and Economic Development, Ms. Tunis began by thanking IOM and partners for organizing such program which was in line with the government’s priority to transform the country’s development, one outcome of which will be the shaping of the government’s engagement with the diaspora. At last, Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, Mr. Joseph delivered keynote remarks.
