Organizer
Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit on behalf of Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development and in cooperation with the organisation team of the Diaspora Summit 2022 - Diaspora beyond 2030

The side event will give the audience inspiration on how effective and constructive cooperation between diaspora and governments in countries of destination/residence on development cooperation can look like. This will be illustrated through concrete project examples and best practices:

  • The Program Migration & Diaspora (funded by BMZ and implemented by GIZ) supports individuals and organisations from the diaspora in Germany in their engagement for sustainable development in countries of origin through funding offers and networking events.
  • The “Diaspora Summit 2022 – Diaspora Beyond 2030” is a diaspora-driven initiative supported by BMZ that intends to intensify cooperation between the diaspora and German state institutions. The first-ever Summit took place in March 2022. At the summit, a corresponding position paper was presented.
  • The WIDU.africa initiative (funded by BMZ and implemented by GIZ) applies an innovative approach that combines funding of the diaspora and coaching to strengthen new and existing small businesses in Africa, which then leads to the creation of new jobs.
