The Danish Refugee Council's Diaspora Programme and DEMAC - the Diaspora Emergency Action & Coordination initiative - invite you to the virtual launch of the Afghanistan Real-Time Report "Diaspora engagement in Afghanistan". The report sets out to explore and capture diaspora engagement efforts in Europe, USA, Canada & Australia in the immediate aftermath of the Taliban takeover in Afghanistan in mid-August 2021.

Date: 7 December
Time: 14:00 – 15:30 CET (Copenhagen, Berlin, Geneva)
10:00 - 11:30 EST (New York, Washington DC)
17:30 – 19:00 AFT (Kabul)

Why is the Afghan diaspora important?
On 16 August, 2021 the Taliban announced that they had gained control of Afghanistan. The takeover resulted in heated public debates about the two-decade war, the humanitarian implications of the withdrawal, and the future of women and civil society in Afghanistan. The role of the Afghan diaspora is now in flux; many prominent civil society figures have been fleeing and diaspora organizations have been called on by the media to comment on the political and human rights situation, while simultaneously navigating the personal and professional effects of the new political reality. How does this reality change the self-perception of the diaspora, and the way they engage with Afghanistan?

Agenda
• Welcome from DRC's Diaspora Programme and DEMAC
• Key findings from the Real-Time Review
