IOM Sierra Leone Diaspora Agribusiness Conference Day 1 Presentation by SLeCAD and Expert

IOM Sierra Leone launched Diaspora Agribusiness, to utilize SL Diaspora for country development through investment.  Sierra Leone is the time of development phase, but almost all of business sectors faces funding resources. IOM try to utilize Diaspora for encouraging remittance/ investment to home country. 

Mr.Nanoh set out that the mandate of SleCAD which is  to provide support to bring actors - private, FDI and governments- together as they work in the sector. Mr. Nanoh emphasized the need for access to market information systems such as pricing and exchange rate on a real time basis citing that this, together with limited access to finance and banking support and sufficient energy are hindering the capabilities of the country to become fully become industrialized. Then,

Mr. Massally explained that many recognize the need in country for greater investment in the entire ecosystem surrounding the agriculture sector and this includes primary farming, logistics and storage, packaging, technology and mechanization, finance and banking, export market access. IOM, together with key MDA partner ODA, recognize that the diaspora is well positioned to contribute to this ecosystem.  The diaspora can play 8 defined roles as consumers, as investors, as skilled professional, as entrepreneurs, as coach and mentors, as connectors, as advisor, and as champions and brand ambassadors for commodities from their country of origin Sierra Leone.
